At Fellowship Baptist Church we value serving. It is part of who we are.
We believe that every Christian has been given something very special from God. You were given a unique gift mix so that you could meet a specific need in the church family.
“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”—1 Peter 4:10
If you have received Jesus as your savior, then you have a spiritual gift! Even if you don’t know what it is or if you don’t feel like you have a special gifting in one area, the Bible teaches that you have a special gift that you can use to serve God. You are vitally important to God’s work here in our church, that is why God placed you here.
“But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. And if they were all one member, where were the body? But now are they many members, yet but one body. And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked.”—1 Corinthians 12:18–24
The Bible teaches that as a member of this church, you are important. Like the different parts in a watch, we all have different functions and abilities but every part is important to making the watch work. Every person in a church is important to the mission. Begin now by discovering, developing, and using your gift to serve the Lord and His church.
What are the Spiritual Gifts?
The Bible explains the gifts in more detail, but in summary here is what the Bible says,
"Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.”
Teaching - the ability and desire to present God’s truth in a way that other people can understand
Encouragement (exhortation) - the ability and desire to encourage others in the Christian life
Helping (ministry) - the ability and desire to serve and help God’s people
Giving - the ability and desire to give to God’s work and God’s people
Leadership (administration) - the ability to lead and administrate part of God’s work
Mercy - the ability to feel the pain of others and help them during trials
Prophecy - more than just a gift; a call from and equipping by God to preach His Word
